Title: Creating a Flood Impact Model for a Global Flood Early Warning System

Presentation Type: Poster Presentation

Abstract:  Global flood inundation mapping will help countries without the proper data or means to predict the possible impact a flood may have. In conjunction with our ongoing efforts to create our global flood inundation model, a global flood impact model has been created for the intended use in our Flood Early Warning System (FEWS) which is currently in the works. The current stage of this model will intersect and record all population, farmland, and infrastructure within a catchment anywhere in the world. Along with using the global flood extents created by our inundation model, we used the entire catchment for the area of impact in the global flood impact model. Using the entire catchment rather than the flood extent conservatively accounts for potential impacts on nearby areas not touched by water. This poster displays the current work that has been done and their results along with future goals we will accomplish.
