Title: The Western States Water Data Access and Analysis Tool (WestDAAT)
Abstract: Access to water rights and water use data and their connection to land use in a single watershed spanning multiple states is cumbersome due to the different access protocols, structures, and terminology Western States have. However, regional analysis and modeling are increasingly more important due to the unprecedented drought and high demand growth that the Western States are experiencing. This lightning talk will introduce the new Western States Water Data Access and Analysis Tool (WestDAAT), which provides a wide range of online interactive data queries and analyses for 2.2 million water rights with available points of diversion and places of use across the Western U.S. It will also include prototype applications for aggregate water budget, streamgage and reservoir, and public water supply data shared by the Western States. The lightning talk intends to invite researchers to explore WestDAAT and evaluate how it may help inform operational water resources management and reach out to the Western States Water Council for more information.
