Title: GUI Design of the Next Generation QPE Workflow for RFC Operations

Abstract:
Every hour, NOAA’s thirteen River Forecast Centers estimate how much rain fell in their region – a process that currently spans multiple disconnected applications with no ability to save, reproduce, or share a workflow. NGPE replaces this fragmented process with a single browser-based interface built on the Tethys Platform using ReactPy and OpenLayers. Forecasters select a region and time, load MRMS radar and MADIS gauge data as interactive map overlays, draw polygon extents for targeted areas, and apply quality control operations such as scale and bias corrections – all within one screen. Tools are modular: each operation presents only its relevant inputs, produces a new map layer that preserves its processing lineage, and can be extended by adding a single Python file without modifying the core application. Future work includes workflow save and share capabilities, additional QC tools, and export to standard formats such as NetCDF and GeoTIFF for integration with downstream flood modeling pipelines. This poster presents the interface design, walks through the map-driven workflow, and includes a live demonstration of the working prototype across all thirteen RFC regions.
