2023 CIROH Science Meeting

Introduction

CIROH is excited to host its second annual Science Meeting October 2-4, 2023, at The University of Alabama. The Science Meeting aims to review and advance the research agenda for CIROH and strengthen the translation of research into practice.

  1. Review progress and outcomes of ongoing CIROH research projects.
  2. Foster collaboration among CIROH researchers, invited experts, and NOAA and other government agency scientists and operational personnel.
  3. Reflect on CIROH’s development and trajectory.
  4. Brainstorm ideas for CIROH activities and strategic initiatives.

Agenda

The Science Meeting will include:

  • Keynote presentations from CIROH and NOAA leaders, federal partners, and practitioners
  • Poster and Lightning Talks Presentations for ongoing and future projects
    • PIs on projects for FY2022 will be required to give a 3 minute report presentation and answer questions. An email will be sent with a template for the presentation soon.
    • PIs on projects for FY2023 are requested to present a poster and lightning talk. Guidelines will be emailed soon.
  • Working group meetings and roundtable discussions on emerging opportunities for CIROH
  • Brainstorming sessions to inform CIROH strategic initiatives Networking and Community Building activities

  • Navigating the Research to Operations Highway in NOAA Water Applications

Travel

Below is information regarding flights, lodgings, and parking. A map marking the locations of the Bryant Conference Center, hotels, and parking is coming soon.

Flight

Attendees flying will need to travel to either Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) or Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and drive to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Birmingham Airport is 62 miles away. The Atlanta Airport is 210 miles away. Arrangements for a rental car will need to be made. There are no easily accessible public transportation options between Birmingham or Atlanta and Tuscaloosa.

Lodgings

CIROH has arranged special rates with three hotels in Tuscaloosa near or on the University of Alabama campus. The room rate cutoff date is September 1, 2023. Bookings after this date are not guaranteed to have the special Annual Science Meeting rate.

Free parking space will be provided for attendees while at the Science Meeting. The parking deck code is still to be determined and will be made available when ready.
